We have today been informed by event organisers British Judo, that the forthcoming European Judo Championships (9 April to 12 April) at the Emirates Arena have been cancelled.
While Glasgow stood ready to deliver yet another world-class event, the decision to cancel the championships was taken following a dispute over sponsorship rights between British Judo and the European Judo Union.
A spokesman for Glasgow Life said: "Along with our partners we are bitterly disappointed with the very late decision to change host city for the 2015 European Judo Championships. This is in no way a reflection the city's readiness to host these championships.
"Glasgow's sporting reputation has never been higher. Just months after delivering the best ever Commonwealth Games and being named as one of the world’s top 10 sporting cities we were preparing to host another top-class event.
"We continue to look forward to celebrating Glasgow’s Year of Sport, with Davis Cup tennis, the IPC Swimming World Championships and World Gymnastics Championships all set to take place in Glasgow over the coming months."
